‘From the pen of Mr Erik Clevedon, Peculiar Lives is another “scientific romance” along the lines of The Coming Times and The Star Beasts. Exotic colour is added by the character of an American Negro detective, Honoré Lechasseur, and his delightful English companion Miss Blandish.

‘The story is weakened, however, by the insistence of Mr Clevedon’s narrator (who tiresomely goes by the name of “Erik Clevedon”) that the story he relates is actually true in all particulars. Quite apart from the frank unlikelihood of events including top-secret scientific projects, awakening supermen, and time-travel, this device is in dubious taste.’
